[TechNote] WebSphere Customization Toolbox (WCT) will not start on Linux Operating System


Problem(Abstract)

Unable to start the WebSphere Customization Toolbox (WCT) GUI from commandline
/opt/IBM/WebSphere/Toolbox/WCT/wct.sh

Symptom

In some cases when the problem occurs there will be no noticeable error displayed on the commandline, while in other cases the following popup message may occur



The following error is seen in the log ..ibm/WebSphere/workspaces/WCT85/.metadata/.log

java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: Could not load SWT library. Reasons: 
/root/.ibm/WebSphere/configurations/WCT85/org.eclipse.osgi/bundles/45/1/.cp/libswt-pi-gtk-3659.so (libXtst.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory)

Resolving the problem

This problem can be resolved by installing the linux packages gtk2-engines.i686 and libXtst.i686
e.g.
# yum install gtk2-engines.i686
# yum install libXtst.i686
