[TechNote] Setting environment entries in WebSphere Application Server

Setting environment entries in WebSphere Application Server

Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)

Environment entries need to be introduced in IBM® WebSphere® Application Server for system tuning.

Resolving the problem

Environment entries can be used to specify variables not specific to WebSphere Application Server, but are defined by other elements, such as UNIX®, Language Environment® (LE), or third-party vendors, among others. These variables tend to be operating system-specific.
Environment entries or variables should be added using the administrative console. To set environment entries from the administrative console in WebSphere Application Server, follow these steps:
WebSphere Application Server 7.0, 8.0, 8.5 and 8.5.5

  1. Open the administrative console.
  2. Select Servers > (Expand Server Types) > WebSphere application servers > server_name > (Expand Java™ and Process Management) > Process Definition > Environment Entries > New.
  3. Add entries to the Name/Value pairs.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Save changes to the master configuration and restart the Application Server.

WebSphere Application Server 6.1

Open the administrative console.

  1. Select Servers > Application Servers > server_name > (Expand Java™ and Process Management) > Process Definition > Environment Entries > New.
  2. Add entries to the Name/Value pairs.
  3. Click OK.
  4. Save changes to the master configuration and restart the Application Server.
