WebSphere Application Server might not recognize Microsoft Server Windows 2012 or Windows 8 as a supported operating system

Problem(Abstract)

During a GUI installation of IBM WebSphere Application Server on a Microsoft Windows Server 2012 or Windows 8 system, a warning message simlar to the following might display:

A supported operating system was not detected. Support for your
operating system might have been added after the release of the product.
You can continue with the installation, but the installation might not
succeed.

Resolving the problem

To ensure compatibility with Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8, perform the following actions:

1. Continue the installation after you receive the warning.
   
   You should be able to continue the installation with no further error messages.
   
   
2. Install one of the following fixes:
   • Version 6.1.0.45
   • Version 7.0.0.25
   • Version 8.0.0.5
   • Version 8.5.0.1
Note: Installing any of the above fixes will produce the warning as well, but these versions are compatible with Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8.
